Like several other brands struggling with their electric models, Kia continues to rack up successes. Its latest creation, the EV4, is poised for a strong career thanks to its aggressive pricing, bold styling, and impressive level of technology.

This new 100% electric sedan allows Kia to broaden its target audience with an approach that differs from the EV6 and EV9. Here, the focus is on an excellent value-for-money formula, offering an accessible car that makes no compromises when it comes to comfort and tech features. In short, the final product is very compelling, and there is little doubt that the Kia EV4 will win over the hearts of many buyers this year.

Lineup and Pricing

The 2026 Kia EV4 lineup is made up of five trims, starting with the Light model, which carries a base price of $38,995. When destination and freight charges are added, the total climbs to $42,412, which remains reasonable for a vehicle in this class. Standard equipment is generous and includes a digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, and a wide range of advanced safety technologies.

Next up is the Wind version, which features a larger battery pack, increasing its overall driving range. This variant starts at $46,412. For an additional $2,500, buyers can step up to the Wind Premium trim, which adds 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and several other convenience features.

The GT-Line version starts at $51,912. Equipment levels increase significantly here, with ventilated seats and unique design elements. Sitting at the top of the lineup is the GT-Line Limited, which starts at $55,412. This version includes a premium Harman Kardon audio system, a digital key, and a host of other upscale features.

Category and Competition

The market is constantly evolving, and some automakers adapt more quickly than others — as is clearly the case with Kia. The Korean manufacturer quickly understood that there would be strong demand for affordable electric vehicles in the near future, giving it an edge over the competition thanks to the EV4.

This compact electric sedan has everything it needs to appeal to a broad audience and is sure to shake things up in the segment of more accessible electric cars.

Rivals

BMW i4, Dodge Charger EV, Hyundai IONIQ 6, Polestar 2, Tesla Model 3

Design and Technology

There is no denying that Kia knows how to be bold when it comes to designing new models. The EV4 is a car that clearly stands out from the crowd and makes a strong visual statement on the road. Its design is thoroughly modern, and you may be pleased to learn that a Quebec-born designer played a key role in its development.

While I realize that the exterior styling of the Korean sedan will not appeal to everyone, the story is very different inside. Kia has taken a more conservative approach with a familiar layout, but one that is still modern and sophisticated. Build quality is excellent for a vehicle in this segment, and ergonomics have clearly been well thought out.

Performance

The 2026 Kia EV4 offers two powertrain configurations. It starts with an electric motor producing 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque. This setup is paired with a 58.3 kWh battery pack, providing enough energy for an estimated driving range of around 391 kilometres on a full charge — an excellent result, especially for an entry-level model.

The second powertrain uses essentially the same motor but is paired with a larger 81.4 kWh battery pack, increasing estimated range to approximately 488 kilometres. In both cases, power is sent exclusively to the front wheels.

The Kia EV4 is compatible with Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 charging stations, making it easy to live with on a daily basis.

Weak Points

Its design will not appeal to everyone. The cabin is not as well insulated from road and wind noise as some buyers might expect.

Strong Points

Its size, pricing, and equipment levels are likely to make it a very popular model. It certainly turns heads wherever it goes. Its driving range is also above average for the segment.

Signature Element

The Kia EV4 delivers excellent value for money and enters a segment where demand is extremely strong.

Final Word

Some see the Kia EV4 as the first truly serious rival to the Tesla Model 3, and I have to say I largely agree with that assessment. Kia offers a compelling formula in a format that appeals to a broad audience, all at a more than competitive price point.
